UMBC Retrievers History
The UMBC Retrievers, representing the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, have a rich athletic history that spans several decades. Established in 1966, the UMBC athletic program initially competed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III before transitioning to Division I in 1983. The school’s mascot, True Grit the Retriever, embodies the spirit of determination and resilience that the teams strive for.
