Pacific Tigers History
The Pacific Tigers, representing the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, have a rich history in intercollegiate athletics dating back to 1889. Originally founded as a Baptist school, the university developed a strong emphasis on both academics and athletics. The Tigers gained recognition in the NCAA Division I as a member of the West Coast Conference (WCC) since 2013. Prior to joining the WCC, the Tigers were part of the Big West Conference, where they became well-known for their spirited basketball rivalry with the UC Irvine Anteaters. Over the years, the Pacific Tigers have achieved noteworthy success in various sports, particularly basketball, where they earned a spot in the NCAA tournament multiple times, most notably reaching the Sweet Sixteen in 1985. The team's colors are orange and black, and they have a lively mascot named 'Tokey the Tiger'. Their commitment to fostering talent and sportsmanship remains evident as they consistently strive for excellence in both athletics and academics.
