Oklahoma Baptist Bison Football History
Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) established its football program in 1899, making it one of the oldest college football teams in the state of Oklahoma. The Bison initially competed at the collegiate level but faced numerous challenges over the years, including economic difficulties and World War II, which led to the program's discontinuation in 1942. After a hiatus of several decades, the football program was revived in 2013, competing in the NCAA Division II level as a member of the Great American Conference (GAC). The revival of the program marked a significant milestone for OBU and its athletics, as the university sought to re-establish a competitive football presence while promoting school spirit and community involvement. The Bison have since built a competitive team, focusing on developing young talent and emphasizing the values of teamwork, perseverance, and faith, reflective of the university's Baptist roots.
