Northern Kentucky Norse History
The Northern Kentucky Norse, representing Northern Kentucky University, have a rich history that dates back to the establishment of the university in 1968. Initially, the university was a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) before transitioning to NCAA Division II in the late 1970s. The Norse experienced significant success in their early years, particularly in men's basketball. In 1988, they made their first NCAA tournament appearance, marking a pivotal moment in the program's development. Over the years, the Norse have shown consistent growth and competitiveness, culminating in their move to NCAA Division I in 2012. This transition allowed them to compete at a higher level and gain greater visibility. The Norse have built a strong athletic tradition, excelling in sports such as basketball, soccer, and volleyball, and have developed a passionate fan base that supports their teams at the BB&T Arena, their home venue since 2015.
