North Florida Ospreys History
The North Florida Ospreys are the intercollegiate athletic teams representing the University of North Florida, located in Jacksonville, Florida. Established in 1985, the university's athletic program began with a focus on building a competitive sports environment for students. The Ospreys initially participated in the NAIA before transitioning to NCAA Division II in 1992. Their commitment to athletic excellence saw them elevate to NCAA Division I in 2009, where they joined the Atlantic Sun Conference (now known as the ASUN Conference). The Ospreys have developed a strong identity in a variety of sports, including basketball, soccer, and baseball, gaining recognition for their competitive spirit and dedication to sportsmanship. Notably, the men’s basketball team made its NCAA tournament debut in 2015, marking a significant milestone in the program’s history.
