The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (FGCU) athletic program was founded in 1991 and is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, competing in the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN). The Eagles experienced rapid growth, becoming a competitive force in various sports since their first season. The men's basketball team gained national recognition during the 2013 NCAA Tournament, famously reaching the Sweet 16 as a No. 15 seed, stunning traditional powerhouses along the way and earning the nickname 'Dunk City.'
