    CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners History

    California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) Roadrunners has a rich history in collegiate athletics. The university was established in 1965, and its athletics program began to take shape in the following years. In 1970, the teams adopted the nickname 'Roadrunners' and chose the blue and gold colors, which represent the school spirit. Initially, CSUB competed at the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) level before transitioning to NCAA Division II in 1977. The Roadrunners have experienced significant success in various sports, particularly in baseball, where they have become a powerhouse in the conference. The men’s basketball team has also made a mark in the NCAA tournaments, earning several berths over the years. In 2009, the Roadrunners joined the NCAA Division I level, further expanding their reach and competitiveness in the sports arena.
