    Concord Mountain Lions History

The Concord Mountain Lions are a collegiate sports program representing Concord University, located in Athens, West Virginia. The history of the Mountain Lions dates back to the university's founding in 1872, but the athletic program was formally established in the late 19th century. Over the years, Concord's athletic teams have gone through various name changes and affiliations, but they officially adopted the 'Mountain Lions' nickname in the early 2000s. This name symbolizes the rugged mountainous terrain of West Virginia and embodies the spirit and tenacity of its athletes. In 1994, Concord became a member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) and later joined the Mountain East Conference (MEC) in 2013. The Mountain Lions have built a solid reputation in several sports, particularly in football, basketball, and track and field, and they have garnered numerous conference titles and national tournament appearances throughout their history.
