Charleston Southern Buccaneers History
The Charleston Southern Buccaneers, representing Charleston Southern University in North Charleston, South Carolina, have a rich history that dates back to their establishment in 1964. Initially, the university was known as Baptist College and was a small liberal arts institution. The Buccaneers' athletic programs began to develop in the early 1970s, with the men's basketball team making its mark by competing in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). In 1983, Charleston Southern joined the NCAA, becoming a member of Division I in 1991.
