Young Concert Artists Series History
The Young Concert Artists (YCA) series was founded in 1961 by pianist and pedagogue Susan Wadsworth. The initiative emerged as a means to offer talented young classical musicians a platform to showcase their abilities and launch professional careers. Recognizing the struggles faced by emerging artists in gaining performance opportunities, Wadsworth envisioned a series of concerts that would highlight exceptional talent in an intimate setting. The YCA quickly became known for its rigorous audition process, attracting some of the most promising musicians from around the globe. Over the decades, the series has played a pivotal role in the careers of celebrated artists such as Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Hilary Hahn, and Nathan Chen, helping to establish their reputations on international stages. The YCA has also expanded over the years, incorporating not just concerts but also educational outreach programs, masterclasses, and collaborative projects, fostering a community of artists and audiences that celebrates classical music.
