University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley Basketball History
The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) basketball program has a rich history that dates back to its founding. Originally established as Pan American University in 1927, the men's basketball team saw its first game in 1949. Over the years, the program evolved, and in 2015, Pan American University merged with the University of Texas at Brownsville to form UTRGV. Since then, the men's basketball team has competed at the NCAA Division I level, joining the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in 2013.
