Triangle Youth Orchestra History
The Triangle Youth Orchestra (TYO) was founded in 1988 in Raleigh, North Carolina, to provide talented young musicians with an opportunity to perform in a full orchestral setting. Catering to musicians aged 8 to 18, TYO focuses on fostering musical growth through performance and collaboration. Initially, the orchestra started with a modest number of members and has since expanded significantly, drawing talent from across the Triangle area, including Chapel Hill, Durham, and surrounding counties. The organization aims to encourage a love for music, instill discipline, and provide students with the experience of rehearsing and performing diverse orchestral works. Over the years, TYO has enriched the cultural landscape of the region by collaborating with prestigious institutions and participating in statewide events, offering young musicians an avenue to showcase their talents on larger stages.
