Tonga played their first international match in 1924 against Fiji. However, it wasn’t until 1975 that they joined the International Rugby Board (now World Rugby). The team gained prominence in the 1980s, particularly during the 1987 Rugby World Cup when they made a remarkable debut by defeating Scotland.
