The Velveteins History
The Velveteins were formed in 2013 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, originating from a passion for crafting their brand of psychedelic rock infused with elements of pop and surf music. The band consists of frontman and guitarist Malikah Aoki, bassist Thomas D'Arcy, and drummer Jay Arner, with their sound characterized by shimmering guitars, lush harmonies, and infectious melodies. They quickly gained recognition in the local music scene, performing at various festivals and venues, which helped solidify their reputation as a promising new act. They released their debut album, 'A Hot Second with The Velveteins,' in 2016, showcasing their innovative style and earning them a dedicated following. The band's unique blend of nostalgic and contemporary sounds has shaped their identity, drawing inspiration from the 1960s rock era and contemporary indie pop. Over the years, they have evolved their sound while staying true to their roots, leading to their sophomore album, 'The Velveteins,' released in 2020. All of these elements have contributed to their rising prominence in the Canadian music landscape and beyond.
