The Hot Sardines History
The Hot Sardines formed in 2007 in New York City, bringing together a diverse group of musicians united by a shared passion for hot jazz and vintage music. The band’s founders, Elizabeth Bougerol and Evan Palazzo, aimed to revive the lively sounds of the 1920s and 1930s, infusing their performances with the spirit of that era while also adding modern flair. With their eclectic instrumentation, which includes piano, brass, and a variety of percussion instruments, The Hot Sardines quickly gained a reputation for their energetic and engaging live performances. They have drawn inspiration from jazz legends like Louis Armstrong and Fats Waller, as well as French chanson and New Orleans jazz. Their debut album, 'The Hot Sardines,' released in 2014, showcased their unique sound and was met with critical acclaim. Over the years, the band has expanded its repertoire, incorporating elements of blues, swing, and even some contemporary influences, while remaining deeply rooted in the rich history of jazz. The Hot Sardines have performed at renowned venues and festivals, such as Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Newport Jazz Festival, and The Montreal International Jazz Festival, further solidifying their status as prominent figures in the contemporary jazz scene.
