The Abyssinians History
The Abyssinians, formed in 1968 in Kingston, Jamaica, are a legendary reggae group known for their rich harmonies and profound lyrics that often reflect Rastafarian themes. The trio, consisting of founding members Donald 'Kuts' Manning, Lynford 'Hux' Huxley, and the late Trevor 'Bunny' Manning, initially began their journey in the music industry by recording for producer Coxsone Dodd at Studio One. Their first single, 'Satta Massagana,' released in 1970, became a reggae classic and is celebrated for its spiritual and uplifting message. The song's success helped them establish a solid reputation in the reggae scene, allowing them to perform at various concerts and festivals across Jamaica and internationally. Over the years, The Abyssinians have released numerous albums, including 'Satta Massagana' (1976) and 'Arise' (1999), solidifying their position as one of the most influential groups in reggae history. Their music often emphasizes themes of love, unity, and social justice, resonating deeply with audiences and making their live performances a powerful experience that connects with fans on an emotional level. Despite changes in the music landscape and the loss of key members, The Abyssinians have continued to tour and perform, maintaining their legacy and introducing their timeless sound to new generations of reggae enthusiasts.
