    Terry Virts is a retired NASA astronaut and U.S. Air Force colonel whose remarkable journey is marked by numerous achievements in the realms of aviation, space exploration, and scientific research. Born on December 1, 1967, in Baltimore, Maryland, Virts developed a fascination for flying early in life, which led him to earn a degree in aerospace engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy and later a master's from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. His military career began as a fighter pilot, and he flew combat missions during the Kosovo War.

    Virts was selected as a NASA astronaut in 2000 and made his first spaceflight in 2009 aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour on mission STS-130, where he contributed to the assembly of the International Space Station (ISS). His second flight, aboard the Soyuz spacecraft in 2014, saw him contribute in a significant capacity as commander of the ISS, conducting various scientific research projects and experiments.
