    About Summer Games

The most recent Summer Games took place in Tokyo, Japan, in 2021 after being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the Games successfully featured over 11,000 athletes from 206 nations, competing in events ranging from traditional sports like athletics and swimming to newer additions like skateboarding and surfing. The event was marked by historic performances, such as Caeleb Dressel's gold medal victories in swimming and Athing Mu's impressive win in the women's 800 meters. Currently, preparations are underway for the next Summer Games in Paris, scheduled for 2024. This iteration promises a return to an unparalleled celebration of sportsmanship, with a strong focus on sustainability and innovation—featuring events in iconic locations throughout the city, such as beach volleyball at the Eiffel Tower and marathons along the Seine River. Key initiatives are also in place to promote gender equality and inclusivity, aiming to feature more female athletes and mixed-gender events than ever before, fostering a new legacy for future generations of athletes.

    Summer Games History

The Summer Games, officially known as the Games of the Olympiad, trace their origins back to ancient Greece. The first recorded Olympic Games took place in Olympia in 776 BC, dedicated to the Greek god Zeus. These early games were held every four years and featured various athletic contests, including running, wrestling, and chariot racing. The Olympic festival was a significant cultural and religious event, drawing competitors and spectators from across the Greek-speaking world. Over the centuries, the games evolved, but they faced interruptions, notably during the Roman Empire and the rise of Christianity. In 1896, the modern Summer Olympics were founded by Pierre de Coubertin in Athens, rejuvenating the spirit of international athletic competition. Since then, the Olympics have grown into a global event, featuring thousands of athletes from countries around the world, competing in a wide range of sports, showcasing not only physical excellence but also championing values of friendship, respect, and excellence.
