    Stryper History

Stryper is an American Christian metal band that was formed in 1983 in Orange County, California. The band was initially known as Roxx Regime before changing their name to Stryper, which is an acronym for 'Salvation Through Redemption, Yielding Peace, Encouragement, and Righteousness.' Stryper gained fame in the 1980s for their unique blend of heavy metal music and Christian themes, becoming one of the first Christian metal bands to achieve mainstream success. Their debut album, 'The Yellow and Black Attack,' was released in 1984 and featured a distinct image characterized by their black and yellow outfits. The band's popularity soared with their subsequent albums, 'Soldiers Under Command' (1985) and 'To Hell with the Devil' (1986), which both garnered critical acclaim and commercial success. The latter album peaked at number 36 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold by the RIAA. Stryper's energetic live performances, marked by their powerful vocals and impressive musicianship, helped them build a dedicated fan base. Despite facing controversy for their religious beliefs and heavy metal style, Stryper continued to tour and release music throughout the 1990s and 2000s, albeit with some lineup changes. They disbanded briefly in the late 1990s but reunited in 2003, releasing new music and embarking on tours that rekindled their connection with fans of both metal and Christian music. Their live concerts are known for their high-energy performances, powerful ballads, and messages of faith, making them a unique presence in the live music scene.
