    About Spikeball

As of 2023, Spikeball continues to thrive with a robust schedule of events and tournaments worldwide, maintaining its momentum through grassroots leagues and large-scale competitions. The Spikeball Roundnet Association (SRA) oversees many of these events, promoting a series of national tournaments and the annual Spikeball Roundnet Championships, which attracts elite teams from diverse regions. The game has also crossed into the realm of professional sports, with a growing number of sponsors recognizing its potential. The annual 'Spikeball Beach Tour' brings together players across the nation for a fun, competitive day at the beach, emphasizing the community aspect of the sport. With an ever-expanding player base, including youth and college athletes, Spikeball is increasingly recognized as not just a recreational pastime but a legitimate competitive sport. Additionally, the increasing coverage on platforms like ESPN and YouTube enhances its visibility, ensuring that Spikeball is not just a fleeting trend, but a mainstay in the sports domain.

    Spikeball History

Spikeball, a sport that blends elements of volleyball and four-square, was invented in 1989 by Chris Ruder, initially as a product called 'Roundnet'. However, it didn't gain significant traction until it was relaunched in 2008 after Ruder polished the design and introduced it to a broader audience. The game features two teams of two players that hit a ball onto a circular net placed at the center of a playing area. The goal is to bounce the ball off the net in a way that the opposing team cannot return it, similar to traditional volleyball rules. Within a few years, Spikeball gained a dedicated community, which sparked the formation of leagues and tournaments around the world. The game's popularity surged dramatically, aided by social media and its vibrant, competitive scene, culminating in its inclusion in multi-sport festivals and events, significantly raising its profile among both casual players and serious competitors.
