Poiesis Quartet History
The Poiesis Quartet, formed in 2015, emerged from a shared passion for contemporary classical music among its four members: violinists, a violist, and a cellist. Based in New York City, the quartet was founded by musicians who met while studying at prestigious institutions like Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music. Their name, 'Poiesis', which translates to 'the act of creating' in Greek, reflects their commitment to not only performing existing works but also commissioning new compositions to push the boundaries of chamber music. Over the years, the quartet has gained recognition for their dynamic performances and has collaborated with a variety of contemporary composers, showcasing innovative works that engage audiences in unique ways. They often blend different musical styles, touring both nationally and internationally to promote their vision of modern classical music.
