    Paul Taylor History

Paul Taylor, an illustrious figure in the world of American dance, made significant contributions to the landscape of modern theatre through his unique choreographic voice. Born on July 29, 1930, in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, Taylor's journey into the dance world began at a young age. After studying at both Syracuse University and the Juilliard School, he became a member of Martha Graham's company, where he honed his craft under the guidance of one of the most influential figures in American modern dance. Taylor's choreographic debut came in 1954 with 'Seven New Dances,' which exhibited his innovative style blending classical ballet techniques with modern sensibilities. Over the decades, he created an extensive repertoire that challenged conventional norms, emphasizing the nuances of human relationships and the complexities of life through movement. His works, characterized by a unique blend of athleticism and grace, have transcended generations and continue to captivate audiences today. In 1974, he established the Paul Taylor Dance Company, which became a prominent platform for his innovative works as well as for the next generation of choreographers, assisting in the preservation of original dances and fostering talent within the dance community. Taylor's legacy is not only evident in the hundreds of ballets he created but also in how he paved the way for modern dance as a respected theatrical form, expanding its presence on mainstream stages worldwide.
