Old Dominion Monarchs Football, representing Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, has a rich history that began in 1936. The team was initially established to compete in the NCAA College Division and continued to play at this level until 1985 when the program was discontinued due to financial constraints. After a long absence, the Monarchs revived their football program in 2009, making a significant return to the gridiron.
