Nevada Ballet Theater History
Nevada Ballet Theater (NBT) was founded in 1972 in Las Vegas, emerging from the desire to create a professional ballet company that would raise the profile of performing arts in the region. It began as a small dance school and quickly progressed to establish itself as a cornerstone of ballet in Nevada. The company was the vision of former artistic director and renowned ballet dancer, Bruce Steivel. Under his guidance, NBT grew to produce ballet classics, contemporary works, and original productions, showcasing local dancers alongside guest artists from leading ballet companies worldwide. In 1989, NBT became the resident ballet company of the newly constructed Smith Center for the Performing Arts, solidifying its presence in the Las Vegas cultural scene. Over the years, NBT has expanded its outreach through education and community programs, fostering a love for dance among diverse audiences in the region. The company's commitment to excellence and innovation has earned it recognition as one of the leading ballet companies in the United States.
