Midnight North History
Midnight North is a vibrant, Americana-infused rock band hailing from San Francisco, California. Formed in 2012, the group was initially created by guitarists and songwriters Grahame Lesh and Ether Rose, both of whom have deep musical roots—their ties to the Grateful Dead and the broader jam band scene provide a rich historical context for their sound. Lesh, the son of Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, brings a familial legacy of musical exploration to the group. What began as casual jam sessions quickly evolved into more structured performances, with the addition of other talented musicians including drummer Nathan Graham, bassist Alex Jordan, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Lizzy McAlpine, and keyboardist and vocalist Jon Bock. The synergy among the musicians has led to a unique blend of folk, rock, and a splash of bluegrass, distinguished by harmonized vocals and profound lyrical storytelling.
Since their inception, Midnight North has made waves in the live music scene, touring extensively throughout the country and headlining their own shows as well as performing at various music festivals. Their early releases garnered attention, with albums like "End of the Night" and "Under the Lights" solidifying their footprint in the Americana and jam band communities. The band’s history is marked by continuous evolution, experimenting with their sound while maintaining a strong connection to the roots of American music, which resonates deeply with their audience.
