    Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks History

    The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks, representing the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), have a rich history in collegiate athletics. The university, located in Princess Anne, Maryland, was established in 1886 and began its athletic programs in the early 1900s. The Hawks' athletic teams were initially part of the NAIA before transitioning to NCAA Division I in the late 1980s. The university is a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), where the Hawks have found a competitive home against other historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Over the years, the Hawks have developed a reputation for excellence in various sports, particularly in basketball and volleyball, where they have achieved notable success in MEAC tournaments.
