    Malik B., born Malik Abdul Basit in 1972, was a prominent figure in the hip-hop community, primarily known for his work as a member of The Roots. Forming in 1987 in Philadelphia, The Roots distinguished themselves with their unique blend of hip-hop and live instrumentation, paving the way for a new era in live performances. Malik B. joined The Roots in their early years and contributed significantly to their debut album, 'Organix' (1993). Known for his deep lyrical content and charismatic stage presence, Malik's contributions helped the group shape their identity, making them one of the most respected bands in the genre. He was an integral part of landmark albums like 'Do You Want More?!!!??!' (1995) and 'Illadelph Halflife' (1996), showcasing his skills as a lyricist and performer.
