Muskegon Lumberjacks History
The Muskegon Lumberjacks are a junior ice hockey team based in Muskegon, Michigan, and are part of the United States Hockey League (USHL). The team was founded in 1961 and has undergone several transformations and name changes throughout its history. Originally, the team played in the International Hockey League (IHL) as the Muskegon Mohawks. In 1971, the team changed its name to the Lumberjacks, a moniker that pays homage to the lumber industry that was vital to the region's economy. The Lumberjacks have a rich tradition and have won multiple championships, including the IHL title in 1992. After a brief hiatus, the franchise returned in the USHL in 2010.
