Kansas City Comets History
The Kansas City Comets, an indoor soccer team based in Kansas City, Missouri, were founded in 1981 as one of the original franchises in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). Over the years, they became known for an exciting style of play and passionate fanbase. The team enjoyed considerable success during the 1980s, winning the MISL championship in 1981 and making multiple playoff appearances. With their neon uniforms and lively game-day atmosphere, the Comets quickly became a staple of the Kansas City sports scene, drawing significant crowds at the Kemper Arena. However, like many teams from that era, the Comets faced challenges during the 1990s with the decline of indoor soccer's popularity, leading to the suspension of operations in 1991. After a brief hiatus, the franchise was revived in 1996, competing in various leagues, including the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) and later the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL). Throughout their history, the Comets have been home to many notable players, such as Kansas native and national team member, Preki, enhancing their standing in the local sports community.
