    Guelph Storm History

The Guelph Storm is a major junior ice hockey team based in Guelph, Ontario. Founded in 1991, the team originally played in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) as the Guelph Platers. The franchise underwent a name change to Guelph Storm in 1991 after being purchased by a new ownership group led by the former Guelph Platers owner, who sought to rebrand and revitalize the team. The Storm quickly made a name for themselves in the OHL, earning their first division title in 1995. Over the years, the Guelph Storm has developed a reputation for producing talented players who move on to the NHL, including notable alumni such as Matt Duchene, Taylor Hall, and Jeff O'Neill. The team won its first OHL Championship in 1998, and their success continued with another championship win in 2000, which also led to an appearance in the Memorial Cup. Throughout the years, the Storm has made several playoff runs, with varying degrees of success, solidifying their place in OHL history. Their home games are played at the Sleeman Centre, a venue that has become a hub for hockey fans in the region. The team has a dedicated fan base and has consistently been a competitive force in the Ontario Hockey League.
