Gateway Grizzlies History
The Gateway Grizzlies are a professional baseball team based in Sauget, Illinois, just outside of St. Louis, Missouri. Established in 2001, the Grizzlies are a member of the Frontier League, an independent baseball league that is known for providing opportunities for players to showcase their talents outside of the Major League Baseball (MLB) system. The team was founded by General Manager, and current owner, Rich Moyer, who aimed to create a family-friendly environment that would foster a love for baseball in the local community. Over the years, the Grizzlies have built a strong following, attracting fans with their exciting gameplay, promotional events, and community outreach programs. They have seen success on the field, including playoff appearances and division titles, contributing to their reputation as a competitive force in the Frontier League. The Grizzlies play their home games at GCS Credit Union Ballpark, a state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2002 and can seat over 6,000 spectators. The ballpark has also become a venue for various events beyond baseball, hosting concerts and other community functions, further cementing the team's role in the local culture.
