    Elbow History

Elbow is a British alternative rock band formed in 1990 in Bury, Greater Manchester. The band consists of lead vocalist Guy Garvey, guitarist Mark Potter, bassist Pete Turner, and drummer Richard Jupp. Initially, the group struggled to find mainstream success, releasing their debut album, 'Asleep in the Back,' in 2001, which received critical acclaim and helped to establish their presence in the music scene. Their sound is characterized by lush instrumentation and poignant lyrics, often exploring themes of love, loss, and nostalgia. Over the years, Elbow has built a dedicated fan base and has been recognized with numerous awards, including the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2008 for their album 'The Seldom Seen Kid.' Live performances have played a significant role in their career, as they are known for their engaging stage presence and the emotional connection they create with their audience. As their popularity grew, Elbow began to headline major festivals and sell out arenas, showcasing their evolution as a live act. They have built a reputation for their dynamic and atmospheric concerts, which often feature elaborate lighting and thoughtful setlists that highlight their extensive discography. Their live performances have been pivotal in cementing their status as one of the leading bands in the UK music scene.
