Death Side History
Death Side is a prominent Japanese hardcore punk band that emerged from the Tokyo punk scene in the late 1980s. Formed in 1985, the band consisted of members Satoshi 'Toshi' Fujinami (vocals), Kenji 'Kenta' Iida (guitar), Yoshiaki 'Yossy' Iimura (bass), and Hiroshi 'Hiro' Nishimura (drums). They quickly garnered acclaim for their aggressive sound, characterized by high-energy performances and socially aware lyrics. Death Side's debut album, 'Ghost of the Self'(1991), marked their entry into the international hardcore scene, blending elements of American punk with their unique Japanese flair. Throughout the 1990s and into the early 2000s, the band became known for their relentless touring and passionate fanbase, often performing at significant music festivals and smaller punk venues both nationally and abroad. Their sound has influenced numerous other bands in the punk and hardcore genres, and they are often credited with helping to shape the Japanese hardcore scene into what it is today.
