    CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners Basketball History

    The CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners men's basketball team was established in 1970 and has a distinctive place in collegiate athletics. Originally competing at the NCAA Division II level, the program gained recognition for its competitive spirit and dedication, quickly becoming a force in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. In 2007, CSU Bakersfield made a landmark decision to transition to NCAA Division I, marking a new era for the program. Under the leadership of various successful coaches, the Roadrunners have participated in numerous conference championships and national tournaments, showcasing their talent and growth over the decades. The team's identity is closely tied to its vibrant community, which has rallied around the Roadrunners, making the Rabobank Arena their home. Notably, a highlight in the team’s history came during the 2015-2016 season, which was marked by a remarkable 25-win overall record, culminating in a spirited run in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament.
