    Chapterhouse History

Chapterhouse is a British shoegaze band formed in 1987 in Reading, England. They emerged during the late '80s wave of alternative and dream pop music, characterized by richly textured guitar soundscapes and ethereal melodies. The band's lineup initially consisted of Andrew Shwilko, Simon Rowe, and guitarist/lead vocalist, Gregor Reeve. Chapterhouse quickly became a crucial part of the 'shoegaze' scene, alongside contemporaries like My Bloody Valentine and Ride. Their debut album, "Whirlpool," released in 1991, showcased their distinctive sound, blending dreamy vocals with layers of guitar effects. They conducted tours across the UK and Europe, building a dedicated fanbase. After a period of relative inactivity following their second album, "Blood Music," in 1993, the band disbanded but occasionally reunited for special performances. In 2010, they regrouped to perform at various festivals, marking their return to the live music scene over a decade later. Their shows have since been notable for their nostalgic yet fresh approach to the shoegaze genre, drawing in both old fans and a new audience captivated by their atmospheric sound and captivating stage presence.
