    Chanticleer History

Chanticleer, known as 'the world's leading male chorus,' was founded in 1978 in San Francisco, California. The group was established by tenor and conductor William J. Fred Scott and was named after the rooster in Geoffrey Chaucer's 'The Canterbury Tales,' symbolizing the beauty of sound. The ensemble originally consisted of a small group of singers and has since evolved into a full 12-member male vocal ensemble, known for its unique blend of voices and versatility in music genres. Over the years, Chanticleer has gained acclaim for its innovative performances and rich interpretations of a wide range of musical styles, including sacred music, folk, jazz, and contemporary works. The group has released numerous recordings, won multiple Grammy Awards, and toured extensively, captivating audiences worldwide. Their commitment to musical excellence and artistic integrity has established them as one of the premier vocal ensembles in the world.
