Chameleons History
Chameleons, originally known as The Chameleons, are an English post-punk band that formed in 1981 in Middleton, Greater Manchester. The band consisted of Mark Burgess (bass guitar, vocals), Dave Fielding (guitar), Reg Smithies (guitar), and John Lever (drums). They gained a following in the UK and Europe with their atmospheric sound characterized by jangly guitars, deep basslines, and poignant lyrics. Their debut album, 'Script of the Bridge,' released in 1983, is often regarded as a classic of the genre and helped solidify their place in the post-punk movement. The band was known for their dynamic live performances, which drew on their ability to create a captivating and immersive atmosphere. Over the years, Chameleons experienced several line-up changes and periods of hiatus, but they continued to influence the alternative music scene. After reuniting in the early 2000s, they began touring again, delighting fans with both classic hits and new material. Their live events are marked by a strong emotional connection with the audience, blending nostalgia with a fresh energy that keeps their legacy alive.
