Carcass History
Carcass, the British extreme metal band formed in 1985 in Liverpool, is known for pioneering the grindcore genre alongside their unique blend of death metal and melodic elements. Originally comprising guitarist Bill Steer, drummer Ken Owen, and bassist and vocalist Jeff Walker, Carcass gained popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s, particularly with their influential albums 'Symphonies of Sickness' and 'Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious.' The band gained notoriety for their graphic song themes and album artwork, which often focused on themes of medicine and anatomy, reflecting Steer's background as a veterinary surgeon. After disbanding in 1995, the original members pursued various projects, but Carcass reunited in 2007, reigniting their legacy in the heavy metal scene. Their reunion brought them back to live performances, introducing their classic tracks like 'Heartwork' and 'This Mortal Coil' to new audiences, while also playing major festivals worldwide, such as Download Festival and Hellfest, consolidating their position as icons in the metal community.
