    About Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra

As of 2023, the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra continues to thrive, providing a platform for young musicians to showcase their talents through a series of live concerts and performances. Each season, BYSO presents a diverse concert schedule that includes classical symphonies, contemporary works, and collaborations with guest artists. The concerts take place at prestigious venues such as Symphony Hall and Jordan Hall, where young musicians perform alongside seasoned professionals, creating a unique and inspiring experience for both performers and audiences. One of the highlights of the current season is the annual 'Concerts for Young People' series, designed to engage younger audiences and introduce them to the world of orchestral music. Additionally, BYSO has adapted to the changing landscape of live events by incorporating virtual performances and hybrid concert formats, allowing them to reach a broader audience while ensuring the safety and health of their musicians and attendees. The organization remains committed to its mission of educational outreach, offering scholarships and community programs that make music accessible to all. With ongoing initiatives and a dedication to the arts, the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra is not only a cornerstone of Boston's cultural fabric but also a beacon of hope for the next generation of musicians.

    Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra History

The Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO) was founded in 1958 with the mission of providing young musicians the opportunity to perform orchestral music at a high level. Established by conductor and educator, Jonathan S. McMullen, BYSO aimed to nurture talent in the Boston area by offering a platform for youth musicians to engage with classical music. Over the years, the orchestra has developed a reputation for excellence, showcasing the talents of young violinists, cellists, woodwind, brass, and percussion players. BYSO not only emphasizes performance but also education, offering programs that include master classes, workshops, and mentoring from professional musicians. Through its various ensembles, including the Youth Orchestra, the Conservatory Orchestra, and the String Orchestra, BYSO has created a vibrant community that fosters musical growth and collaboration among young artists. The organization has seen countless alumni go on to pursue careers in music, further enriching the cultural landscape of Boston and beyond, as well as contributing to the classical music scene nationally and internationally.
