Bemidji State Beavers Hockey History
The Bemidji State Beavers Hockey program has a rich history that dates back to its inception in 1932. Initially, the team played at the amateur level and competed against local high school and college teams. It wasn't until 1961 that the Beavers became a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), joining the ranks of collegiate hockey teams across the country. Over the years, the program has developed a strong reputation for its competitive spirit and dedication to player development. The Beavers found success in the 1980s and 1990s, with multiple appearances in the NCAA tournament, and they have consistently been a formidable opponent in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The team's home games are held at the Sanford Center, which opened in 2010 and has since become a hub for hockey enthusiasts in northern Minnesota. The Beavers have produced numerous NHL players and continue to emphasize both athletic excellence and academic achievement among their student-athletes.
