Belly - The Band History
Belly is an American alternative rock band formed in 1991 in Boston, Massachusetts. The band originally consisted of Tanya Donelly (vocals, guitar), Thomas McCarty (guitar), Chris Gorman (drums), and Gail Greenwood (bass). Belly emerged from the vibrant '90s rock scene and quickly gained attention for their melodic sound and ethereal lyrics. They released their debut album, 'Star', in 1993, which included hits like 'Feed the Tree' and received critical acclaim, earning a spot in the grunge and alternative rock movement of the era. The band's style was characterized by jangly guitars, atmospheric vocals, and introspective lyrics, setting them apart from their contemporaries. After their sophomore album, 'King', in 1995, Belly disbanded in 1996, with members pursuing various projects. However, their music continued to resonate with fans, leading to a resurgence of interest in the band. In 2018, Belly reunited for a series of live performances, bringing back their beloved hits and introducing new material, much to the delight of long-time fans and new listeners alike. Their history is marked by a blend of innovative sound and a strong connection to the alternative rock scene, making them a significant presence in the world of live music.
