Be Your Own Pet History
Formed in 2004 in Nashville, Tennessee, Be Your Own Pet exploded onto the music scene with their electrifying blend of punk rock and garage rock. The band, consisting of members Jemina Pearl, Nathan Vasquez, John Eatherly, and the late all-star bass player, was quickly known for their energetic performances and catchy hooks. Their self-titled debut album, released in 2006 under XL Recordings, showcased their raw sound and vibrant energy, featuring tracks like 'Bicycle' and 'Damn Damn Leash.' The band garnered significant attention for their live shows, which were characterized by Pearl's wild stage presence and the band's chaotic yet harmonious dynamic. Be Your Own Pet became a staple in the underground punk scene and toured extensively, performing at notable music festivals such as Lollapalooza and SXSW, where their high-energy sets left audiences craving more. However, after releasing their sophomore album, 'Get Awkward,' in 2008, the band went on an indefinite hiatus in 2009, leading fans to wonder if they'd ever see them perform live again.
