Since the mid-1970’s, U2 has been thrilling fans and gracing the airwaves with their classic rock sound. Starting as a small band with big ambitions in Dublin, Ireland, U2 went through a few incarnations before finding their identity – first as Feedback, then as The Hype, and finally landed on U2. While their first and second albums brought them a sizable degree of success, their third album, War, was released in 1983 and an instant international hit. Since then U2 has been an unstoppable force of music, activism and inspiration for fans worldwide.
Many bands are great in the studio, while other bands are great live. U2 is a rare breed that excels strongly in both arenas, and has done so for over 35 years. Bandmembers Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr are a magical combination of talents, and their discography shows it. They are prolific song writers (with 13 studio albums to date), known for compelling rock/alt compositions and raw, emotional lyrics. Since their first Grammy win in 1988 for The Joshua Tree, they have gone on to win an impressive 22 Grammys (out of 34 nominations). In 2005, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and have sold over 150 million records as of 2010.
They have played to sold-out stadiums for over 30 years, and continue to amaze fans with energetic, moving performances. With a strong history of activism such as the 1984 Band Aid fundraiser, the 2001 HIV/AIDS awareness concerts, 46664, hosted by Nelson Mandela, the Music Rising initiative to support artists post-hurricane Katrina in 2005, and the Product Red project in 2006 to raise money for Global Fund, U2 has tirelessly lent their voices to the larger cause. U2 puts on a legendary show that should not be missed!
