The Beginnings

Troye Sivan’s place of birth is the city of Johannesburg in South Africa. His family made the move to Australia when he was just two years old. He began his career by singing on Channel Seven Perth Telethon for three years straight in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

He came out with his first EP titled “Dare to Dream” in June of 2007. Sivan was only twelve years old at the time. He worked on a few projects over the next few years and on June 5, 2013, he signed a recording contract with EMI Australia. He kept the news under wraps for a year or so.

Troye Sivan then released his debut studio album titled “Blue Neighbourhood” on December 4, 2015. The record was a huge critical success. It received four stars out of five from AllMusic, Herald Sun, The Observer, Rolling Stone Australia and the Islington Gazette. Billboard gave it three and a half stars out of five while Rolling Stone gave it three out of five. Blue Neighbourhood received five out of five from The Guardian.

It was more or less the same on the commercial front too. The album went on to peak at the seventh spot on the Billboard 200 and at the ninth position on the UK Digital Albums chart. Not only that, but it also charted in countries like Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Finland, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany among others. Blue Neighbourhood was certified gold in Australia, Denmark and the United States.
