Early Life

The Texas native was named Jacques Webster and was interested in music when he was quite young. His dad brought him his first drum set when he was only three. Later he learnt how to play a piano. As Scott grew up he got quite impressed by the late '90s rap videos. He cites Ma$e, Diddy, ‘Ye, Little Dragon, Portishead Björk and Cam’ron as major influences.  Inspired by this kind of music, Scott soon began making his own beats at the age of 16 and also started writing his own rap songs.

Scott started off with his music career as a record producer. Together with his longtime friend Chris Holloway, the two released an EP on MySpace. This was in 2008. In 2010, Scott formed a duo called, The Classmates with OG Chess and with him he gave two full-length songs in 2011. These were “Buddy Rich” and “Crusin’ USA.”  The songs were all produced by Scott himself.  Though the songs were appreciated, the partnership did not last for long and later due to financial issues between the two, they finally parted ways.

Music Career

After dropping out of college, Scott moved to New York and then later to Los Angeles to pursue his passion for music. He was determined to make it in the industry and for this reason also changed his name to Travis Scott, which was initially stylized as Travi$ Scott. This was done for marketing reasons because he realized that Jacques Webster wasn’t a name that would click with the masses.

Scott got in touch with Mike Waxx and he assisted him to record and release some of his early work. One of Scott’s songs in particular, titled “Lights (Love Sick)” came to the attention of rapper and producer T.I. who invited him to his studio. He later collaborated with him on a few songs as well. Overall, this meeting with Mike Waxx was productive since it also provided Scott with the opportunity to meet Kanye West with whom he worked with on his debut project “Owl Pharoah” and also the GOOD Music’s compilation album “Cruel Summer.”

It was in 2013 that he released his first single, Blocka La Flame and then a few days later released the second one as well. Both the singles were successful and with these two hits he gained attention of the masses as a promising artist to have emerged in the industry.  Satisfied with the response, Scott started work on his debut mixtapes and Owl Pharaoh hit the market on 21st of May, 2013.

Rodeo

His first studio album, “Rodeo”, featured guest appearances by several well-known acts that included names like Kanye West, The Weeknd, Quavo, Juicy J, Swae Lee, Justin Bieber, Young Thug and several others. Scott himself was the producer among others.  The album came out in 2015 and featured two hit singles "3500" and "Antidote." The album did great on the charts and was certified platinum.

Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight

Following the success of his first album, the very next year Scott came up with his second studio album titled, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight. It went number one on the US Billboard 200 and in its first week alone managed to sell 53,000 copies. Again, it featured appearances by other artists and was produced by Scott along with other producers. The two singles of the album "Pick Up the Phone" and "Goosebumps" did well.  The second album unlike the first one got good response from the critics as well.

Not the one to take rest soon the American rapper was back to work. Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho is his new joint venture with American rapper Quavo. According to his contemporaries, he is an album artist and wants to build a solid body of work.  Scott says he wants it all - he wants to give the best shows, win Grammy and wants to stay original.
