Sorry, there are no events.

The name Thirty Seconds to Mars is not the only thing that is different about the band. Their sound, which is a fusion of different genres like hard rock, alternative and neo-progressive, is unique too. The music they have come out with has resonated with the fans and a look at the number of albums they have sold and the awards they have won tells its own story.

Thirty Seconds to Mars is not your run-of-the-mill rock band. They are special and that is why fans waste no time in getting Thirty Seconds to Mars tickets whenever they perform live.

The Backdrop

Thirty Seconds to Mars was formed in the second half of the 1990s by Jared Leto and his brother Shannon Leto. Jared had entered the entertainment industry as an actor in 1992. His first major break as an actor came when he was given the role of Claire Dane’s love interest in “My So-Called Life,” a television series on ABC. He made his movie debut in “How to Make an American Quilt” in the year 1995. Jared then went on to work in other movies over the next few years but later decided it was time to try something different.

The Formation of Thirty Seconds to Mars

Jared Leto decided to form his own band and in order to do that, he got in touch with his elder brother Shannon. The band was formed in 1998 and more members were added to the line-up shortly afterwards.

Like most new bands, they started off by performing gigs on a relatively small scale. Their venues of choice during those early days were clubs mostly. They had however already been working on their debut self-titled album with Jared doing the bulk of writing for it. They also wrote a few demos and soon they received their first recording deal.

The Debut Album

Thirty Seconds to Mars went to the countryside in Wyoming to start recording sessions for their debut studio album. They also got in touch with Brian Virtue and Bob Ezrin. For latter had worked with icons like Alice Cooper, Kiss and Pink Floyd and for Thirty Seconds to Mars, he was the guy. Before the album could come out, they were asked by Puddle of Mudd to open for them. Once the trek ended, they went on a tour with Incubus as an opening act.

Their album “Thirty Seconds to Mars” hit the music stores on August 27, 2002. The record peaked at the first spot on the US Top Heatseekers and at the one hundred and seventh spot on the US Billboard 200. While the record did not do well commercially, the critics loved it. BBC Collective gave it four stars out of five while it also received three stars out of five from Blender.

Success Comes Calling

Thirty Seconds to Mars went on tour with other bands and even opened for the likes of Sevendust and Our Lady Peace. Their popularity had begun to soar and that also brought their way a chance to perform at the Lollapalooza in 2003.

Thirty Seconds to Mars decided it was time to hit the studios once again and work on their next album. Work began in 2004 and Josh Abraham was brought onboard as the producer. The sophomore record was titled “A Beautiful Lie’’ and it was released on August 30, 2005. Jared had been busy with his acting career too during this time and the band members travelled all across the globe to record the album. All that travelling and hard work paid off in spectacular fashion.

A Beautiful Lie went on to peak at the ninth spot on the US Rock Albums chart and at the thirty sixth position on the US Billboard 200. It also charted in multiple countries like Portugal, Australia, Mexico, Ireland, Greece, New Zealand the UK and Switzerland among others.

The album was certified gold in Australia, Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom. It went platinum in Italy and the United States. Melodic put it among the best albums of the year and so did the Alternative Press. In 2009 when Kerrang! compiled its list of the 50 best albums of the decade, A Beautiful Lie made it to the fourth spot.

This is War

The success of A Beautiful Lie was followed by the road trip titled “Welcome to the Universe Tour.” In November of 2006, they released the single From Yesterday which was featured on A Beautiful Lie and it became the band’s first number one track when it went to the pinnacle of the Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks.

They began work on their next album “This Is War” in August of 2008. It eventually came out on December 8. 2009 and turned out to be a massive hit. The record peaked at the eighteenth spot on the US Billboard 200. It also went as high as the second and fourth positions on the US Alternative Albums and the US Rock Albums charts respectively. This Is War also charted in Russia, the United Kingdom, Spain and Switzerland among a long list of other countries. The record was certified platinum in the UK and went gold in the US. This Is War recorded double platinum level sales in Belgium and Portugal.

This Is War was a huge hit with the critics as well. It received three stars out of five from AllMusic and Q. Alternative Press and Kerrang! gave it four stars out of five each. The album has sold in excess of a whopping four million copies around the globe.

The band spent the next few years performing live and collaborating with different artists. One of those collaborations saw Thirty Seconds to Mars work with Kanye West on the track Hurricane which went on to feature on the deluxe edition of This Is War.

In 2011, an announcement was made that Thirty Seconds to Mars would be going into the Guinness World Records for performing the most live shows in a single album cycle. The total number of shows they performed were three hundred. The history making three hundredth show saw them take the stage at the Hammerstein Ballroom in the Big Apple on December 7, 2011.

Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams

Thirty Seconds to Mars decided to take a break from their touring schedule in the year 2012 to focus on their next album. The record was titled “Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams” and it was released on May 21, 2013. The record was another commercial and critical hit. It went on to peak at the third spot on both the US Top Alternative Albums chart and the US Top Rock Albums chart. Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams also became their highest charting record on the US Billboard 200 by going to the sixth position on the chart.

Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams also charted in other countries like the UK, Switzerland, Spain, Scotland, Sweden, Portugal, New Zealand, Australia, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan and South Korea and other nations. The record was also certified double platinum in Portugal and platinum in Russia.

As far as critical acclaim goes, Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams received three and a half stars out of five from AllMusic and three out of five stars from Alternative Press. Billboard and Kerrang! both gave it four stars out of five.
