Brief History

Did you know that The Wizard of Oz was actually adapted into stage production before the 1939 movie? The show first played in 1902 in Chicago and became successful on Broadway the following year. Since then, there have been a handful of different productions. They all respectively incorporate different influences and no two productions are alike, yet they are alike in the fact that they reached extreme success. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, creators of the 2011 production, wanted the latest rendition of the story to be the best yet. Everything that prior shows had missed, they were going to find a way to include.

Productions

Webber and Rice’s production hit the stage on the first of March 2011. Danielle Hope, winner of reality television show Over the Rainbow, got the part of Dorothy. After closing this specific production in 2012, Over the Rainbow brought forth a new Dorothy, Danielle Wade, for a re-opening in 2013. In under 1 year, the production was seen by over 500,00 people. The production remained silent for a little, until the musical began to tour in Australia in 2017.
