Denver-based folk-rock trio The Lumineers burst onto the international stage with “Ho Hey,” an insanely catchy, soul-grabbing masterpiece that was one of the most pervasive hits of 2012 and beyond. With exceptional musicianship, a style that is at once familiar and cutting-edge and innovative songwriting, the Lumineers are a band on the rise.
Born out of tragedy, the Lumineers consist of Jeremiah Fraites, Wesley Schultz and Neyla Pekarek. First coming together after Fraites’ brother died from a drug overdose, Fraites and Schultz, one of his brother’s closest friends, began writing music together as part of their grieving process. The New Jersey-born duo started playing together in the crowded New York marketplace.
After a move to Denver, Fraites and Schultz found and began jamming with gifted cellist Pekarek, and just like that, the Lumineers were whole. Discovered, like so many bands these, on YouTube, the eponymous debut album lit up the charts, rising all the way up to #2 on the Billboard 200 while “Ho Hey” found its way into films and TV soundtracks like “Hart of Dixie” and “Silver Linings Playbook.”
An integral part of a hugely popular wave of folk-rock bands sweeping the planet, The Lumineers, alongside such standouts as Mumford and Sons and Icelandic sensation Of Monsters and Man, are lighting up arenas everywhere.
