Blues-guitar prodigy Kenny Wayne Shepherd was still in high school when his debut album, 1995’s Ledbetter Heights, was released and, ultimately, went platinum. Though, despite knowing from an early age that he wanted to pursue a career in music, his parents insisted he finish school before diving into his dream profession. (It’s also worth noting that Shepherd is completely self-taught and can’t read a lick of music. Instead, everything he plays in by ear. As if his talent couldn’t be more impressive, right?)
Over the next 10 years, Shepherd would release four more albums, the majority of which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues chart and went platinum, too. Used to churning out music almost effortlessly through his career, Shepherd decided to take a little bit of time in writing and recording 2011’s How I Go. “I used to bang out records kind of back-to-back," Shepherd told MusicRadar.com before the album’s release. "Lately, though, I've waited a bit more for inspiration to come to me. Still, it's not like I've been sitting idly by—I've put out records, they just haven't been studio albums.” Though only 37, Shepherd released his seventh studio album, Goin’ Home, in 2014 and the record is a tribute to some of his biggest musical influences, featuring appearances from artists like The Rebirth Jazz Band, Joe Walsh and Warren Haynes, Ringo Starr and Robert Randolph. Experience it live!
