The Get Up Kids History
The Get Up Kids formed in 1995 in Kansas City, Missouri, and quickly became a significant part of the emo and pop-punk scenes of the late 1990s and early 2000s. The band, consisting of vocalist Matt Pryor, guitarist Jim Suptic, bassist Rob Pope, drummer Ryan Pope, and keyboardist James Dewees, released their debut album, 'Four Minute Mile,' in 1997. This album, along with their follow-up, 'Something to Write Home About' (1999), showcased their catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics, resonating with a generation of fans. The Get Up Kids were known for their energetic live performances, drawing crowds with their infectious sound and engaging stage presence. They toured extensively during their early years, playing alongside bands like Dashboard Confessional, Saves the Day, and Alkaline Trio, solidifying their reputation in the punk and emo music scenes. After a hiatus in the mid-2000s, the band reunited in 2009, revitalizing their fan base and continuing to perform at festivals and their own shows worldwide, further cementing their legacy in the live music realm.
